What are quality of life crimes, and how do you stop them? Quality of life crimes are nuisance crimes that affect the way we live and the enjoyment of our life and our environment. Nuisance crimes such as illegal dumping, vandalism and graffiti take away from the quality-of-life people want to enjoy.
Take for instance illegal dumping. Illegal dumping brings down the property values because it is an eye sore but also because illegal dumping brings disease. Disease can enter the waterways from illegal dumping. Illegal Dumping also attracts rats and mosquitoes, which both also bring diseases. Rats carry fleas and bacteria which spreads to the community they multiple in. Mosquitos carry diseases such as Zika, West Nile Virus, La Crosse Encephalitis.
Other quality-of-life crimes are vandalism and graffiti. Vandalism and graffiti also bring down the property values, is hideous and dangerous, and attracts more dangerous crime into the neighborhood. When people live in a safe and comfortable environment, the stress level is significantly lower. Nobody wants to live somewhere there is a constant reminder of crime and the threat of crime.
Nuisance crimes happen anywhere, but especially isolated areas in the community, such as an abandoned lot or a neighborhood park.
So, what can a community do to stop the quality-of-life crimes in their neighborhood?
If your community is having problems with illegal dumping, vandalism and graffiti, there are tools to combat these crimes that are specifically designed to provide prosecutable images in remote areas where electricity and internet are not possible or difficult to access. They are also very effective at stopping vandalism and graffiti before the crime occurs.
